DIOR HAUTE COUTURE SPRING SUMMER 2018 BACKSTAGE
Peter Philips, creative image director for Dior Make-up, created for the Dior Spring-Summer 2018 Haute Couture collection a strong look echoing the surrealist inspiration behind Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection, based on the character and works of Leonor Fini.
“Surrealism is also a really important artistic movement for me. This aesthetic revolution made its mark, and it still resonates today, Salvador Dali and man Ray, as well as German Photographer Grete Stern are all references for me, and I particularly appreciate their provocative vision” says Peter Phillips
“Their artistic freedom inspired an extreme, excessive eye design. Using quotations chosen by Maria Grazia Chiuri, I also wanted to emphasize the surrealist sense of humour and taste for subversion with temporary black tattoos drawn straight onto fingers, ears and around the neck. The chosen words and messages celebrate the creative free spirit of surrealism, for example: “Clef”, “Liberté”, “Contradiction”, “L’Art”, “Bal Masqué”, “Miroir”, “Attitudes Spectrales”, “L’Amour Est Toujours Devant Vous Amiez!”, “Nous Sommes Tous Surréalistes”, “L’Amour Fou”, “L’Imaginaire, C’est ce Qui Tend a Devenir Réel”, as well as “Au Départil Ne’s Agit Pas de Comprendre Mais Bien D’Aimer”.
EYES
Spectacular eyes dominate the overall look, “ I was inspired by that surrealist works imprinted in my memory as well as some very strong film images. With the new Matte Black DiorShow on Stage Liner, which really is a perfect tool. I created a graphic projection of the eyelashes by over-exaggerating them in the extreme. Long, precise lashes were drawn onto the upper and lower eyelids, framing the eyes and stretching excessively towards the temples” he adds. “I applied DiorShow Khol Beige to the lower waterline to open the eyes, as well as at the lash line to contrast with the black liner. Last of all, I subtly defined the eyebrows using Sourcils Poudre Pencil and DiorShow Bold brow for a beautiful finish”.
COMPLEXION
Peter Philips describes a “Natural, luminous complexion enhanced using DiorSkin Forever & Ever Wear Primer applied first, followed by DiorSking Forever Undercover Foundation” he adds, “I applied a few drops of DiorSkin Forever Undercover Concealer to add light and subtle correction. Lastly, I swept the face with a very light veil of DiorSkin Forever & Ever Control Loose Powder”
LIPS
“Lips look natural and are prepared using Lip Maximizer then given a slight hint of colour with Lip Glow in Pink or Matte Pink”
NAILS
They were prepared using Base Coat Abricot, and looked natural in Dior Vernis Muguet No. 108 and Gel Coat Abricot.
