EXCLUSIVE Q&A WITH AMANI SAAB

Tell us about your inspiration for this dress- why did you want to create it?

A friend of mine was searching for an after-party bridal dress that would allow her to dance comfortably after her wedding reception. She told me she was constantly buying and returning dresses, struggling to find one that was unique, of exceptional quality and fit, and versatile enough to wear for other occasions beyond her wedding.

Inspired by her, I designed this bespoke dress. It was edgy, glamorous, and most importantly, comfortable. The mini sequin dress featured an open back, a dramatic hood—one of my signature design elements—and feathers at the hem for a festive touch. When she tried on the dress for the first time, she knew it was the one.

After seeing how happy she was wearing the dress on her wedding day, I knew other brides would be looking for a dress that embodied the same qualities. I decided to honour the bride by naming the dress after her, and launched the style online for other brides to enjoy.

How does this new drop play into your future focus for the brand?

AMANI SAAB the label was essentially born to express my vision of evening wear designed for the modern woman. I wanted to create dresses with a couture approach to design, but that was more wearable and easier to wear. I wanted to design pieces that exude glamour and that embody an effortless appeal, that was exclusive yet attainable at a contemporary price point.

Expanding our product offering by tapping into the bridal market strengthens our presence as a luxury label in the industry. We want to continue to innovate and expand our line in a way that resonates with our philosophy to create intentional pieces made for women to feel celebrated throughout special moments in their lives.

Brides are looking for multiple wedding outfits that go beyond the traditional white gown. Our bridal pieces cater to brides seeking unique, high-quality, and versatile wedding attire who want to express their personal style not just on their wedding day, but across multiple events surrounding the wedding, including the reception, after-party, next-day brunches and beyond.

I love constantly being inspired by our customers and curating looks that are in tune with their needs and desires. It’s what fuels me to propel the brand forward.

How do you want brides to feel when they wear this dress?

The Aleen Sequin Dress tells a story of contemporary elegance. It strikes the perfect balance between uniqueness and timelessness, comfort and glamour, and playfulness with sophistication.

It is the perfect dress to transition from the wedding reception to the afterparty, making a statement that the bride is ready to take the dance floor.

How is Amani Saab is sustainable?

Our commitment to sustainability extends to every aspect of our operations, from design to production, aiming to reduce waste and our environmental impact.

As a designer, it is important for me to find ways to design in a more responsible way.

We have a “less-is-more” philosophy, focusing on quality and creative expression rather than high-volume production. This allows us to minimize waste, ensuring that each piece is crafted with intention and care.

Our collections are released on a pre-order basis to reduce overproduction, where each piece is made specifically for the customer.

50% of the fabrics we source are designer dead stock fabrics brands, in addition to using low impact materials. This reduces the environmental footprint associated with fabric production.

As a U.S.-based brand, each garment is meticulously crafted locally. Supporting local craftsmanship and fostering a collaborative environment alongside the seamstresses enables us to have a close-knit relationship and also ensures transparency throughout the process.

All these qualities allow us to create both responsible and unique pieces for our customers.

How has the bridal industry changed in recent years as far as fashion? To stay competitive going forward how can change their strategies to attract modern brides?

There is a new wave of brides seeking a more unconventional approach to bridal wear beyond the traditional wedding ball gowns. Brides now want multiple looks: one for the ceremony, another for the reception, the after-party, and outfits for the brunch the following day. They are essentially creating a complete wedding wardrobe that reflects their personal style.

The future of bridal wear lies in diversity, individuality, intimacy, and versatility:

  • Bridal fashion has expanded beyond traditional white gowns to include a wide variety of styles, colours, and silhouettes. Brides are opting for non-traditional gowns, suits, and separates.
  • Brides are seeking more personalized and custom-made dresses that reflect their individual style, story or even to evoke a certain theme or feeling.
  • The trend towards smaller, more intimate weddings (micro-weddings) has influenced bridal fashion, with many brides opting for simpler, more understated gowns. Casual and versatile bridal wear that can be worn again for other occasions is also becoming more popular.
  • There is an increasing focus on comfort and practicality in bridal wear, with brides seeking dresses that allow them to move and enjoy their wedding day without restrictions. Think about lightweight fabrics and convertible dresses that can be altered for different parts of the wedding day.
  • There is a growing market for affordable yet stylish bridal wear, catering to brides who want statement pieces that do not compromise on quality or design.
